The number of unemployed people registered with public employment services in Bosnia and Herzegovina on 31 October 2023 was 346 051. As compared to a month earlier, this number was lower by 797 persons or 0.23%. Out of the total number of job seekers, 202 252 or 58.45% were women. In comparison to the same period of the year earlier, unemployment in BiH was lower by 11 261 persons or 3.15%.

Unemployment decreased in Federation of BiH by 471 persons (0.17%), in Republika Srpska by 347 persons (0.58%) but increased in the Brčko District of BiH by 21 persons (0.16%).

Job seekers by qualification levels, situation as of 31 October 2023:

100 461 unskilled workers or 29.03%, of whom 59 905 (29.64%) women;

5 247 semi-skilled workers – lower educational background or 1.52%, of whom 2 728 (1.35%) women;

108 345 skilled workers or 31.31%, of whom 52 207 (25.81%) women;

901 highly skilled workers or 0.26%, of whom 187 (0.09%) women;

97 721 with secondary education or 28.24%, of whom 63 752 (31.52%) women;

5 392 with two-year post-secondary education or 1.56%, of whom 3 558 (1.76%) women;

27 984 with university degree or 8.09%, of whom 19 870 (9.82%) women.

A total of 20 681 people were deregistered from public employment services in Octomber, of whom 10 189 were women. Out of this number, there were 8 157 flows into employment, of which 4 403 were women. 

At the same time employment terminated for 10 548 people, of whom 5 437 were women.  In the same period, employers reported 5 437 vacancies. 

According to BiH Agency for Statistics, the number of people in employment in BiH in September 2023 stood at 850 523, of whom 383 735 were women.  In comparison to August 2023, the number of people in employment was increased by 0.8% and the number of employed women increased by 1.4%.

Registered unemployment rate for September 2023 was 29.0% and was 0.3 percentage point lower than in August 2023.
