The number of unemployed people registered with public employment services in Bosnia and Herzegovina on 29 February 2020 was 402 888. As compared to a month earlier, this number was lower by 3 279 persons or 0.81%. Out of the total number of job seekers, 228 912 or 56.82% were women. In comparison to the same period of the year earlier, unemployment in BiH was lower by 27 165 persons or 6.32%.

Unemployment decreased in the Federation of BiH by 812 persons (0.26%), in Republika Srpska by 2 280 persons (2.55%) and in the Brčko District of BiH by 187 persons (2.71%).

Job seekers by qualification levels, situation as of 29 February 2020:

111 069 unskilled workers or 27.57%, of whom 46 573 (26.77%) men and 64 496 (28.18%) women;

7 198 semi-skilled workers – lower educational background or 1.79%, of whom 3 583 (2.06%) men and 3 615 (1.58%) women;

127 550 skilled workers or 31.66%, of whom 68 433 (39.33%) men and 59 117 (25.83%) women;

1 593 highly skilled workers or 0.40%, of whom 1 320 (0.76%) men and 273 (0.12%) women;

114 220 with secondary education or 28.35%, of whom 41 340 (23.76%) men and 72 880 (31.84%) women;

6 731 with two-year post-secondary education or 1.67%, of whom 2 416 (1.39%) men and 4 315 (1.89%) women;

34 527 with university degree or 8.57%, of whom 10 311 (5.93%) men and 24 216 (10.58%) women.

A total of 17 303 people were deregistered from public employment services, of whom 8 565 were women. Out of this number, there were 8 981 flows into employment, of which 4 462 were women. 

At the same time employment terminated for 9 538 people, of whom 4 290 were women.  In the same period, employers reported 4 249 vacancies.

 According to BiH Agency for Statistics, the number of people in employment in BiH in January 2020 stood at 833 909, of whom 361 352 were women.  In comparison to December 2019, the number of people in employment increased by 0.1% and the number of employed women increased by 0.5%.

Registered unemployment rate for January 2020 was 32.7% and was 0.1 percentage point higher than in December 2019.
