Overview of the Labour Market Situation as of 29 February 2016

On 29 February 2016, a total of 536,684 persons were registered as unemployed in Bosnia and Herzegovina. As compared to the previous month, the number of the unemployed decreased by 2,414 persons or 0.45%.
Unemployment decreased in the Federation of BiH by 2,132 persons (0.55%), in Republika Srpska by 293 persons (0.22%), while the Brčko District of BiH saw an increase in unemployment by 11 persons (0.09%).
The structure of job seekers as of 29 February 2016 by educational level was following:
142,674 unskilled workers (26.60%),
9,397 semi-skilled workers (1.80%),
181,543 skilled workers (33.80%),
2,851 highly skilled workers (0.50%),
1,469 workers with primary education (0.30%),
148,050 with secondary education (27.60%),
7,559 with two-year post-secondary education (1.40%) and
43,141 with university education (8.0%).
The largest share in registered unemployment continues to be made up of persons with third level of education – skilled workers (33.80%) and workers with secondary education (27.60%).
The total outflow from unemployment registers in February amounted to 16,032 persons, out of which 9,357 persons were placed to jobs.
At the same time, there were 6,070 persons whose employment terminated and 3,864 new vacancies notified by employers.
According to the data of the BiH Agency for Statistics, the number of persons in paid employment in legal entities in BiH in January 2016 amounted to 717,929 persons, out of which 296,749 were women. As compared to December 2015, the total number of persons in paid employment in legal entities increased by 0.4%.
Registered unemployment rate in January 2016 stood at 42.9%, remaining unchanged from December 2015.
