Labour market situation as of 30 April 2024

As of 30 April 2024, 329 944 people were registered as unemployed in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Compared to a month earlier, the number of the unemployed fell by 5 422 or 0.93%. Of the total number of job seekers, 194 638 or 58.99% were women. Compared to the same period a year earlier, the unemployment in BiH decreased by 19 466 or 5.57%.
Unemployment fell by 4 244 (1.60%) in FBiH, by 1 028 (1.76%) in RS and by 170 (1.39%) in the Brčko District of BiH.
The structure of job seekers as of 30 April 2024 is as follows:
Unskilled workers: 97 792 or 29.64%, comprising 39 196 (28.97%) men and 58 596 (30.11%) women;
Semi-skilled workers/low educational background: 4 814 or 1.46%, comprising 2 259 (1.67%) men and 2 555 (1.31%) women;
Skilled workers: 103 176 or 31.27%, comprising 52 735 (38.97%) men and 50 441 (25.92%) women;
Highly skilled workers: 755 or 0.23%, comprising 601 (0.44%) men and 154 (0.08%) women;
Secondary school qualifications: 92 439 or 28.02%, comprising 31 269 (23.11%) men and 61 170 (31.43%) women;
Two-year post-secondary education: 5 009 or 1.52%, comprising 1 720 (1.27%) men and 3 289 (1.69%) women;
University degree: 25 959 or 7.87%, comprising 7 526 (5.56%) men and 18 433 (9.47%) women.
In April, a total of 18 589 people were deregistered, of whom 9 155 were women. Of that number, 8 480 people were placed in jobs, of whom 4 444 were women.
At the same time, the service terminated for 8 597 people, of whom 4 289 were women. In this period, employers reported 4 482 new vacancies.
According to the BiH Agency for Statistics, the number of people in paid work in BiH amounted to 853 002 in March 2024, of whom 387 022 were women. Compared to February 2024, the total number of people in work remained unchanged, whilst the number of women in work increased by 0.1%.
The registered unemployment rate in March 2024 stood at 28.2% and it was lower by 0.2 percentage points against February 2024.
