The number of unemployed people registered with public employment services in Bosnia and Herzegovina on 31 August 2020 was 427 593. As compared to a month earlier, this number was higher by 1 341 persons or 0.31%. Out of the total number of job seekers, 244 549 or 57.19% were women. In comparison to the same period of the year earlier, unemployment in BiH was higher by 20 745 persons or 5.1%.

Unemployment decreased in the Brčko District of BiH by 98 persons (1.38%) but increased in the Federation of BiH by 1 228 persons (0.37%) and in Republika Srpska by 211 persons (0.24%).

Job seekers by qualification levels, situation as of 31 August 2020:

111 868 unskilled workers or 26.16%, of whom 65 682 (26.86%) women;

7 129 semi-skilled workers – lower educational background or 1.67%, of whom 3 631 (1.48%) women;

124 438 skilled workers or 29.10%, of whom 78 682 (31.17%) women;

1 580 highly skilled workers or 0.37%, of whom 285 (0.12%) women;

124 550 with secondary education or 29.22%, of whom 78 753 (32.33%) women;

7 364 with two-year post-secondary education or 1.72%, of whom 4 811 (1.97%) women;

40 797 with university degree or 9.54%, of whom 29 055 (11.88%) women.

A total of 13 557 people were deregistered from public employment services in August, of whom 6 495 were women. Out of this number, there were 9 067 flows into employment, of which 4 260 were women. 

At the same time employment terminated for 9 564 people, of whom 4 870 were women.  In the same period, employers reported 3 947 vacancies. 

According to BiH Agency for Statistics, the number of people in employment in BiH in July 2020 stood at 803 326, of whom 344 792 were women.  In comparison to June 2020, the number of people in employment decreased by 0.1% and the number of employed women decreased by 0.4%.

Registered unemployment rate for July 2020 was 34.4% and was 0.3 percentage point higher than in June 2020.
