The number of unemployed people registered with public employment services in Bosnia and Herzegovina on 31 January 2024 was 340 561. As compared to a month earlier, this number was lower by 2 939 persons or 0.86%. Out of the total number of job seekers, 199 687 or 58.63% were women. In comparison to the same period of the year earlier, unemployment in BiH was lower by 15 511 persons or 4.36%.

Unemployment decreased in Federation of BiH by 3,034 persons (1.12%) and in the Brčko District of BiH by 134 persons (1.05%) but increased in Republika Srpska by 229 persons (0.39%).

Job seekers by qualification levels, situation as of 31 January 2024:

99 818 unskilled workers or 29.31%, of whom 59 541 (29.82%) women;

4 975 semi-skilled workers – lower educational background or 1.46%, of whom 2 630 (1.32%) women;

106 536 skilled workers or 31.28%, of whom 51 504 (25.79%) women;

809 highly skilled workers or 0.24%, of whom 173 (0.09%) women;

95 801 with secondary education or 28.13%, of whom 62 901 (31.50%) women;

5 331 with two-year post-secondary education or 1.57%, of whom 3 521 (1.76%) women;

27 291 with university degree or 8.01%, of whom 19 417 (9.72%) women.

A total of 21 827 people were deregistered from public employment services in January, of whom 10 363 were women. Out of this number, there were 7 530 flows into employment, of which 4 060 were women. 

At the same time employment terminated for 10 370 people, of whom 5 167 were women.  In the same period, employers reported 3 361 vacancies. 

According to BiH Agency for Statistics, the number of people in employment in BiH in December 2023 stood at 852 813, of whom 385 616 were women.  In comparison to November 2023, the number of people in employment decreased by 0.2% and the number of employed women decreased by 0.1%.

Registered unemployment rate for December 2023 was 28.7% and was same than in November 2023.
