The number of unemployed people registered with public employment services in Bosnia and Herzegovina on 31 July 2020 was 426 252. As compared to a month earlier, this number was higher by 4 952 persons or 1.18%. Out of the total number of job seekers, 243 580 or 57.14% were women. In comparison to the same period of the year earlier, unemployment in BiH was higher by 19 143 persons or 4.7%.

Unemployment increased in the Federation of BiH by 4 041 persons (1.24%), in Republika Srpska by 777 persons (0.21%) and in the Brčko District of BiH by 135 persons (1.92%).

Job seekers by qualification levels, situation as of 31 July 2020:

112 139 unskilled workers or 26.31%, of whom 65 818 (27.02%) women;

7 136 semi-skilled workers – lower educational background or 1.67%, of whom 3 616 (1.48%) women;

134 020 skilled workers or 31.44%, of whom 62 277 (25.57%) women;

1 571 highly skilled workers or 0.37%, of whom 282 (0.12%) women;

124 550 with secondary education or 29.22%, of whom 78 753 (32.33%) women;

7 197 with two-year post-secondary education or 1.69%, of whom 4 690 (1.93%) women;

39 639 with university degree or 9.30%, of whom 28 144 (11.55%) women.

A total of 14 617 people were deregistered from public employment services in july, of whom 7 069 were women. Out of this number, there were 10 684 flows into employment, of which 5 081 were women. 

At the same time employment terminated for 10 746 people, of whom 5 853 were women.  In the same period, employers reported 2 135 vacancies. 

According to BiH Agency for Statistics, the number of people in employment in BiH in June 2020 stood at 804 028, of whom 346 329 were women.  In comparison to May 2020, the number of people in employment increased by 0.5% and the number of employed women increased by 0.5%.

Registered unemployment rate for May 2020 was 34.4% and was 0.1 percentage point lower than in April 2020.
