Labour market situation as of 31 July 2024

As of 31 July 2024, 328 674 people were registered as unemployed in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Compared to a month earlier, the number of the unemployed increased by 3 106 or 0.95%. Of the total number of job seekers, 194 846 or 59.28% were women. Compared to the same period a year earlier, the unemployment in BiH decreased by 21 787 or 6.22%.
Unemployment decreased by 338 (0.6%) in RS and by 69 (0.58%) in BD BiH, and it increased by 3 513 (1.36%) in FBiH.
The structure of job seekers as of 31 July 2024 is as follows:
Unskilled workers: 95 652 or 29.10%, comprising 38 170 (28.52%) men and 57 482 (29.50%) women;
Semi-skilled workers/low educational background: 4 660 or 1.42%, comprising 2 181 (1.63%) men and 2 479 (1.27%) women;
Skilled workers: 102 242 or 31.11%, comprising 52 216 (39.02%) men and 50 026 (25.67%) women;
Highly skilled workers: 742 or 0.23%, comprising 575 (0.43%) men and 167 (0.09%) women;
Secondary school qualifications: 92 536 or 28.15%, comprising 31 387 (23.45%) men and 61 149 (31.38%) women;
Two-year post-secondary education: 5 243 or 1.60%, comprising 1 728 (1.29%) men and 3 515 (1.80%) women;
University degree: 27 599 or 8.40%, comprising 7 571 (5.66%) men and 20 028 (10.28%) women.
Within the total number of registered unemployed people, 18 034 were newly added to the register in July 2024, of whom 9 853 were women. Total number of people who were deregistered was 15 025, of whom 7 445 were women. Of the total number of people who were deregistered, 6 366 or 42.37% were placed in jobs, of whom 3 348 or 52.59% were women.
In July 2024, employers reported 4 127 new vacancies to public employment services in BiH, of which 1 024 were for women, whilst the registered number of people whose employment was terminated during the reported period amounted to 9 521. The registered number of women whose employment was terminated during the reporting period was 5 636 or 59.19%.
According to the BiH Agency for Statistics, the number of people in paid work in BiH amounted to 854 865 in June 2024, of whom 388 832 were women. Compared to May 2024, the total number of people in work has remained unchanged, as has the number of women in paid work.
The registered unemployment rate for June 2024 was 27.6% and it was lower by 0.1 percentage points compared to May 2024.
