The number of unemployed people registered with public employment services in Bosnia and Herzegovina on 31 May 2021 was 395 999. As compared to a month earlier, this number was lower by 6 147 persons or 1.53%. Out of the total number of job seekers, 227 480 or 57.44% were women. In comparison to the same period of the year earlier, unemployment in BiH was lower by 25 475 persons or 6.04%.

Unemployment decreased in Federation of BiH by 3 267 persons (1.04%), in Republika Srpska by 2 674 persons (3.34%) and in the Brčko District of BiH by 206 persons (2.94%)

Job seekers by qualification levels, situation as of 31 May 2021:

107 278 unskilled workers or 27.09%, of whom 62 846 (27.63%) women;

6 540 semi-skilled workers – lower educational background or 1.65%, of whom 3 326 (1.46%) women;

125 372 skilled workers or 31.66%, of whom 59 312 (26.07%) women;

1 416 highly skilled workers or 0.36%, of whom 258 (0.11%) women;

113 534 with secondary education or 28.67%, of whom 72 634 (31.93%) women;

6 903 with two-year post-secondary education or 1.74%, of whom 4 473 (1.97%) women;

34 956 with university degree or 8.83%, of whom 24 631 (10.83%) women.

A total of 16 188 people were deregistered from public employment services in May, of whom 7 558 were women. Out of this number, there were 9.933 flows into employment, of which 3 646 were women. 

At the same time employment terminated for 7 646 people, of whom 3 646 were women.  In the same period, employers reported 3 437 vacancies. 

According to BiH Agency for Statistics, the number of people in employment in BiH in April 2021 stood at 813 454, of whom 349 80333 were women.  In comparison to March 2021, the number of people in employment increased by 0.3% and the number of employed women decreased by 0.4%.

Registered unemployment rate for April 2021 was 33.1% and was 0.3 percentage point lower than in March 2021.
