A delegation of the Labour and Employment Agency of BiH, headed by Director Muamer Bandić, is attending a two-day workshop of the Transnational Working Group organized under DRIM Project (Danube Region Information Platform for Economic Integration of Migrants) on 24th and 25th January in Belgrade.  The Labour and Employment Agency of BiH has already cooperated with DRIM and the result of that cooperation is Danube Compass, the information platform which provides information to our citizens about labour migration in eight countries of the Danube Region (Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Slovenia and Serbia).

The topics of the workshops in Belgrade are related to the problems arising in the field of information delivery to migrant workers and other mobile individuals with a twofold aim: to help migrants in accessing jobs in host countries legally and in a secure manner and, on the other hand, to facilitate the countries in migration management.  In that regard, the Director of the Labour and Employment Agency of BiH highlighted the problems that may occur when migrant workers are not well informed of the modalities of taking employment abroad and explained the role of the Labour and Employment Agency of BiH in the process of labour migration.  Director Bandić also said that: “the most reliable way to manage labour migration is to have a legal framework, i.e. interstate agreements that regulate employment of the citizens of one country in another country.”

“Our experience tells us that this way of labour migration management provides security and protection to the workers employed in other countries, enables their regular employment, prevents frauds in recruitment and enables the sending countries to manage migration in the context of the needs of their domestic labour markets, i.e. to mediate in employment exclusively of the labour force that is in excess supply in their respective labour markets”, said Bandić.

Director Bandić also stressed that the Labour and Employment Agency of BiH has already started to use the Danube Compass application and that all candidates interested in migrating to one of the Danube Region countries can obtain all relevant information on taking up employment in these countries by means of this application which is crucial in eliminating possible abuses of migrant.
