Representatives of the Agency participated in WAPES conference



Representatives of the Labour and Employment Agency of BiH participated in the conference of the World Association of Public Employment Services (WAPES) organized on 4th and 5th September 2024 by public employment services of the Netherlands and Switzerland in Lugano, Switzerland.

Experts from across Europe discussed the causes, consequences and strategies for addressing skill shortages in the labour market.  Furthermore, they discussed the empowering of different segments of labour force, talent retention and innovative approaches as potential solutions to the issue of skill shortages.   In that way, labour markets would become more resilient and adaptable to future changes.

In the panel on new roles for public employment services, Ivan Barbalić, Director of the Labour and Employment Agency of BiH, presented the labour market challenges in Bosnia and Herzegovina that have arisen due to the shortage of workers with specific knowledge and skills. 

Following the workshop, the WAPES Europe Region members met to discuss future activities and prepare for the upcoming meeting of the Managing Board of which the Labour and Employment Agency of BiH is a member.
