Following the invitation of the Slovenian Independent Trade Union a delegation of the Labour and Employment Agency of BiH, headed by Director Muamer Bandić, participated in a meeting held on 20th February 2019 aimed at discussing the possibilities of improving the implementation of the Agreement on Employment of BiH Workers in Slovenia and advancing the protection of workers’ rights in companies where these have been violated.  The meeting was also attended by representatives of the Labour Inspectorate of the Republic of Slovenia who have been informed of the problems encountered by BiH workers hired by employers in the Republic of Slovenia.  After an exchange of information, it was concluded that efforts should be invested in providing information to workers intending to take employment in the Republic of Slovenia and that these workers should ask for information about all relevant details concerning workers’ rights arising from employment and residence in the Republic of Slovenia from the Labour and Employment Agency of BiH prior to their departure to the Republic of Slovenia. It was also concluded that the candidates intending to take employment in the Republic of Slovenia under the Employment Agreement should contact the Labour and Employment Agency of BiH for instruction on what details to pay attention when taking employment in Slovenia.

“We have a situation where most of the workers taking employment abroad do not avail themselves enough of the capacities of the Labour and Employment Agency of BiH, i.e. they do not contact us for the details concerning the Agreement and the working conditions in Slovenia.  However, owing to an intensified engagement of the Agency in protecting workers’ rights in Slovenia and the media coverage of the topic, an increased number of candidates contacted the Agency for the relevant information in the last six months.  We want to enhance this level of confidence and be at service to an even larger number of candidates on a day-to-day basis”, said Bandić.

“Therefore, I wish to underline once again that workers should not sign any blank documents or contracts and statements they do not understand.   In such cases, they should turn to the Slovenian Trade Union for help.  They should know that they can also contact the Slovenian Independent Workers’ Trade Union where the assistance will be provided and before their departure to Slovenia, they should inquire about their future employers at the Labour and Employment Agency of BiH and ask for information about the working conditions in Slovenia”, stressed Director Bandić.
