“We
are facing the challenges of labour shortages both in Slovenia and
across all Europe. Given
the gravity of the situation, the biggest challenge for the economy in
the future will be the growth constraints due labour shortages”, reads
one of the final conclusions of the international conference Labour
Mobility to Slovenia: Needs, Challenges and Practices, attended by representatives of the Labour and Employment Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The event,
organised by the European Labour Authority and the Employment Service of Slovenia, was held on 5th
March 2024 at the Brdo Congress Centre, Kranj, Slovenia. It gathered
around 100 representatives of public employment services from Slovenia
and other countries, EU institutions and social partners. The Labour
and Employment Agency of BiH took an active part
in the second panel of the conference dedicated to cross-border
recruitment of workers. On that occasion, Samir Zuko,
Assistant Director at the Agency, shared the experience of the Labour
and Employment Agency of BiH in the implementation of the Agreement on
Recruitment of the Citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Republic of
Slovenia and presented the labour market challenges
in BiH concerning recruitment of migrant workers. Other panellists in
the session were Ante Lončar,
Director General of the Croatian Employment Service, Anka Rode,
Head of the Regional Labour Migration Office at the Employment Service of Slovenia, Alexander Gärtner, EURES
Advisor at the Austrian Employment Service, and Martin Claus, Head
of European Mobility Networks at the German Federal Employment Agency.
The conference offered new insights and practical information on cross-border labour migration
valuable to the Labour and Employment Agency of BiH in strengthening its capacities in labour migration management.
On the sidelines of the conference, Ivan
Barbalić,
Director of the Labour and Employment Agency of BiH, met with
representatives of public employment services of Croatia, Montenegro and
Serbia to
discuss the possibilities of negotiating cooperation agreements, in
particular in the sphere of European integration and possibilities of
nominating common projects. Director Barbalić also talked to a
representative the World Association of Public Employment
Services (WAPES) about the Agency’s role in this organisation so far.
