Stop to illegal employment abroad
A press conference was held today in the premises of the Labour and Employment Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The journalists were addressed by Mr. Adnan Delić, Director of the Labour and Employment Agency of BiH and Mr. Asim Ibrahimagić, Assitant Director. Topic of the press conference was current state-of-play in the labour market of Bosnia and Herzegovina and employment of BiH citizens abroad.
The latest data on unemployment was communicated in the conference. On 31 October 2011 there were 540,893 unemployed persons in PES registers in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In comparison to the previous month, the number of the unemployed has increased by 904 persons or 0.17%. The attending journalists were introduced to the reasons behind the increase in unemployment, such as political instability, reduced inflow of both foreign direct and domestic investment, problem of clandestine employment. Some positive solutions in BiH were welcomed on this occasion, such as the decision of the Ministry of Education of the Sarajevo Canton to revise enrolment quota for some faculties in order to reduce production of surplus of highly educated workforce, as well as the decision issued by the Federal Government announcing stricter regulations and higher penalties for illicit work.
With regards to employment of workers abroad, an appeal was sent out to citizens of BiH not to be deceived by advertisements published in the papers offering jobs abroad. It was stressed that the Labour and Employment Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina is the only authority in BiH with legal competencies over employment of our citizens abroad. All citizens wishing to work abroad via job advertisements can first inquire in the Labour and Employment Agency of BiH whether their potential employment is illicit or not. Citizens were also advised to check what type of residence visa abroad they are offered by employer. In case of legal employment, employer is obliged to first sign a work contract with worker. On the basis of that contract, he then obtains work permit for the worker and thereafter residence permit will be issued. Most important, all necessary documents and permits are obtained while workers are in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
